PS : FYI, here is what I just submitted to the site :

One of my first memories of Alexey Mihailovich was back in 1994. For those who are unaware, he was an avid music-lover. Having studied both violin and viola himself, Alexey Mihailovich had intimate knowledge on the subject. He was particularly fond of what we classical musicians call “contemporary” music. I remember his avid interest in the music of 20th century Ukrainian composers such as Mryoslav Skroyk and Yevhen Stankovych. He seemed to be even more interested to hear their works — and the works of other living composers — than music from the standard repertoire, by composers from past centuries. In this regard alone, that already made him very different from the average concertgoer. I will always remember our last meeting, when the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra and I played for the opening of a new school in his local village. Without him, the school would probably never have been built. He will be sorely missed, and he has left behind a legacy to be upheld. May he rest in peace. Tsarstvo yemu nebesnoye.

Dear Andrey !

The terrible news reached us today.

We send you our heartfelt condolences.

Aida and I are in Athens, and we shared this sad news today with legendary USSR ballet dancer Vladimir Vasiliev ( he’s one of the very greatest ballet dancers of the entire 20th century ) . During dinner, we talked in detail with Vasiliev about your Dad, and about how much he did to help the arts, and the Odessa community in general, over the years.

Having lost both my parents, I know this will be a very difficult time for you. I hope you can take some “time off” during the next few weeks, to reflect and to grieve. This is very important psychologically.

Please be assured you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Your Dad was a wonderful person. Tsarstvo yemu nebesnoye.

Primi nashy soboleznovaniya.
